Yet More Marinas on film

Post by Gee tc » Sat Jan 12, 2008 11:30 am

HI,

One of my prezzies this year was a boxed set of BBC's Boys from the Blackstuff'. Written by Alan Bleasdale back in '82.
In the first episode, 'Jobs for the boys' you see most of the Marinas.
For those of us old enough to remember it was about a gang of 'Thatchers Millions' on the dole moonlighting in Liverpool in the early eighties.
(Having been one myself, I can vouch for how difficult times were then).

However there are MANY Marinas in the footage! Especially in the closing scenes.
The 'Dole' investigators in this film have no less than 4 vans in the same scene (digitally remastered ) of various ages ,P to T reg, chasing these guys around the city, with over and understeering close-ups around building sites etc during sting operations.
They actually shift which in these things which looks pretty cool!

One of the investigators is no other than 'Corries' Ray Cropper who these days takes a step backwards into a Minor Traveller although looking how he drives his van you can see why!

On a minor note most of the filming was taken on a busy city centre junction and if you look further than the immediate action you see many vehicles no longer seen in production. (Even the coppers had RS2000s then).
Its not on youtube 'yet' but is available at HMV for around £11.00 for the 3 disc set.

Well worth a look if you can. Gets my vote for best tv Marina content!
