the work continues - i had plans of changing th efront wallance for a Ital one and then rework that.

but since the overall condition was actually quite good we only filled in some minor areas in the one that was on the car

Then there was the replacement of the LH rear wing.

the panel under the "middle" window at the crayford conversion now is fresh and as everything now is lined up there wouldnt be 10 cm of filler in the final product : )

Another weekend gone, this time it was the LH side which were done
I didn't have a new LH rear wing so i cut what was useable of a coupe i'm using for parts. here the new part of the wing is but-welded onto the chassis . with the door re-attached for alignement.

first stages of the weld - ready to be grinded back

some grinding done - still more to go

final stages - looking good

on the front the LH front wing had been recently changed - but there were some rot in the A-post not visible from the outside

so we tilted the body - all farmstyle
- and used some wooden blocks to hold her up to gain access

then the lower spotwelds were drilled and the wing pressed/blocked out with some wood

no problems with the access now

the remaining time were spendt on grinding and preping the outside & inside - even took some panelbeating so this was the only filler needed for the rear lh wing and then there were some over the but-weld in the wing - but otherwise it's all steel and etch-primer

only welding left to do now is the dreaded front-screen top-bar which will be tackled next week .

haven't been putting some picks up lately but the progress continius
Top rail have been cut off

and the new one fabricated with the strenghtening points moved over

yes the car is now in primer

also the underside got a fresh coat of rust-treatment, then undersealant and then primer (it will also be painted)

then it's been flattening, flattening, flattening, and more flattening, flattening followed by flattening. When doing this NEVER work together with someone that does it for a living , they're never satisfied, here we have rolled the shell out for some sun, while flattening the innside of the enginecompartment and the underside of the bonnet/innside of the boot etc.

FINALLY - stage 1 completed
from this

to this

i'll give it a rest for a couple of months then i'll polish her up and slooooowly start refitting new/restored bits'n peaces.
plans still say 2010 for the finish. but there is a LOT to do before that...
and yes i know it is a long time but
a. I'm in no hurry
b. I'm trying to get everything as correct as possible, and would like every detail to be as good as i can (after all Gary have set the standard) and i cant attach used/nonrefurbed parts to the shell after his pics

not too hard when you can get the kind of help i got with this. If i was alone i'll probably still would be grinding back rusty metal... Amazing what a few extra hands can do...EL Presidente IOW wrote:My you have been busy Jan, she looks lovely!!, well done mate, at this rate you probably will have her done for next year!, how did the screen surround go...tricky little sods aren`t they?!, yet another Blaze beauty8)
i will leave the mumford for a while now partly to have some of the major components overhauled, partly to let the new paint harden thoroughly, and partly because as my workshop isn't heated we plan to do another car chassiswise while it still is warm enough to do some spraying....
