Sounds like you may have the wrong float chamber needle? My T.C did the same when i bought new,as soon as i put the older, smaller back in it was ok. Take the top off and check it closing the needle off at the right hieght :?:

I had the same problem on my Mk1 1.8 single carb the petrol was coming out through the top of the float chamber breather. It was as it's worst when ticking over or low revs rather than in normal driving.

After a strip and clean in carb cleaner it all worked fine. The only thing that I found was a minute particle of c**p had lodged between the petrol inlet and the float mechanism, sticking the float down (holding the float valve open).

Since then I have fitted an inline filter between the pump and the carb and it hasn't happened again. I run with a non-standard carb needle for two years without any other problem.

stevie with yours being a 1700 you cant take the top off you need to take the carb off. then you throw it in the bin along with your "o " series engine and fit a much better 1300 engine and box preferably from a morris minor that has been upgraded. ........clan chieftain
