8 inch rear drums

Post by jcordhume » Wed Sep 18, 2013 6:48 pm

Just been given a rear axle which i believe is from a marina, however its got 8 inch rear drums, did they use this size of rear brake drum on any year/model of marina. If so does anybody know where i can get a good condition 8 inch drum to replace the one that is badly scored?
Thanks

Can you post a picture to confirm which axle it is. It would then be possible to confirm that it is Marina/Ital. There were two axles, the Saloon, Coupe, Estate and 7cwt/440 Commercial used one axle and a different heavy duty axle was used on the 10cwt/575 Commercial.

The 8" (203mm) drum Marina/Ital axle is the Saloon, Coupe, Estate and 7cwt/440 Commercial one. The same axle was used with different brackets on the Caterham 7 (Ital based), Triumph Dolomite and Triumph TR7.

Any good machine shop should be able to recut the drums for you. Might be what we all have to do one day :-(

As Ben said, your local machine shop will skim the inside of the drums for you.

Alternatively try this for a new one from TR7 on Rimmer Brothers website.

Will post a pic when i get back at the weekend, I was kind of hopping that i could get a new or second hand one as i think this would be past re-machining as the score is about 20mm wide and about 5mm deep not to mention the cost!!

One on fleabay here, 21H 5136, title says "MORRIS MARINA REAR BRAKE DRUM" but description says "MORRIS MARINA FRONT BRAKE DRUM". Were the front and rear drums the same? :-?

Earlpart have them listed here, at an eye-watering 56.61 :o

Well I would post a photo of the axle but can't work out how to!! I now also have a problem with the brake cylinders as all the ones i seem to find are different to the ones on the axle. Also if i ever get these brakes rebuilt how do you adjust them?
Thanks

There's a "How To..." here.

Two ways to post photos.

1) Attach to your message - when you're typing in your message, you'll find the Attach tab/button below the message "window", browse for your photos and click "attach".
2) Upload your photos to PhotoBucket or flickr, then paste a link in your message (click the "Img" button above the message "window", "img" and "/img" tags will appear in your message, paste the photo's url between those "img" and "/img" tags. Even easier, Photobucket will generate the code for a thumbnail link to your photo for you, then you just paste that code into your message. That's what I do.
