No I don't think so, the guy had a load of Marina/Ital spares, I had some anti-roll bars off him.

Yes two other cars were scrapped (a Russet MK3 and a beige Ital) so he was selling the parts from them.

Re: Is this too far gone or worth saving still?
Hi everyone, just a quick update I have been in contact with a local garage who have said they can carry out the work for me. Someone is coming to take a look at it on wednesday to give me a quotation for the work then I will start to get the parts to sort it out.
Thanks for all of the advice and help so far!

Always worth repairing with most panels available and reasonable prices

The chap from the garage came to take a look today and it is very good news. He said he can beat the lot of it out. He has been specialising in panel beating for a number of years and said he started on cars like this one. All of that including a front end respray too. All he said is I will need a Mk3 grille, sealed headlamp unit and indicator unit!

I was looking at the pic of your grille damage, the centre action between the spotlights is separate and removable, so you only need the outer piece. The outer is common to the Mk2 & Mk3 and there are plenty about, so you should be OK there.

Re: Is this too far gone or worth saving still?
Hi, thanks for all of the advice. Ben, thanks for the offer I have luckily found someone just a few streets away who has a grille and indicator unit so I am collecting them tomorrow. Just need to source parts for the MOT it has coming up in march. The engine has to run rich in order for it to run properly so I know the emissions will be through the roof and that knocking noise is still there but I believe it is coming from the steering rack arm so I need to source some new ones. And the brake servo seems to be playing up now.
I will also post some photos of the finished bodywork once it comes back from the garage.
Cheers!

You can recondition the steering rack yourself, you have to remove it and strip it down to get to the worn bush that is causing the knocking noise. I can supply the bush if you want to do it?

Hi, that would be great. It sounds like it is coming from near or under the rubber gaitor.

The bush is about 3" (75mm) in from the left hand end of the metal rack tube.

Re: Is this too far gone or worth saving still?
Hi, I finally got the car back today and I am very happy with it? It looks as if nothing has ever happened! They also matched the paint and gave it a clean and polish. I only have this photo at the moment as I have had to rush it to another garage to get the mot done (and it really needs some work doing for that)! So there we are, turns out it was worth saving, let's just hope the cost of the MOT work is cheap as I am now skint
